Quilted and down jackets

Quilted and down jackets

For the colder days, down and quilted jackets are the perfect choice. A good cut and high-quality workmanship ensure that the quilted jacket does not look bulky, even in larger sizes. While quilted jackets are filled with synthetic material, down jackets, with their natural filling of bird feathers, provide optimal thermal insulation with particularly light comfort – even if they have to be stowed in your luggage or in your hand.

Quilted jackets are often more resistant to moisture and dry faster than down jackets because of their synthetic filling. Down, on the other hand, offers unbeatable warmth-to-weight ratio, which is why it is ideal for very cold temperatures.

HIRMER big & tall Style tip

With a well-combined down or quilted jacket, you can brave the winter in style!

Wear warm corduroy trousers or wool trousers for added comfort and go for layered outfits so you can react flexibly to temperature fluctuations. A roll-neck jumper or a warm flannel shirt is the perfect addition to the look.

For the perfect outdoor style, choose robust leather or lace-up boots and add a fashionable touch with a colourful hat or a patterned scarf. This way, you'll be both weatherproof and style-conscious!

Materials & properties

Materials & properties

  • Down filling: Extremely warm, light and breathable, but more sensitive to moisture.
  • Synthetic filling (quilted jackets): Easy-care, quick-drying and often even water-repellent – ideal for wet weather.
  • Water-repellent or waterproof outer materials: Many jackets are equipped with special coatings to withstand wind and rain.
  • Adjustable cuffs and hoods: these help to keep body heat inside and protect against icy winds.

Care instructions for your down or quilted jacket

  • Only wash down jackets with a special down detergent and then shake them out in the dryer with tennis balls so that the down does not clump.
  • Quilted jackets made of synthetic materials are usually easier to care for and can be washed on a gentle cycle and air-dried.
  • Use a water-repellent spray to maintain the water-repellent properties.
  • Shake the jacket regularly to ensure that the filling is evenly distributed.

FAQs for choosing the right jacket

When choosing the type of jacket, you have many options. More important than the model is a well-made cut that is specifically designed for plus sizes. Blousons and parkas often offer extra room to move. But leather and denim jackets are also the perfect fashion statement when cut right. Be brave and try out what you like. You'll be surprised!

No problem! If you try it on and realise that you need a smaller or larger size, you can exchange it for the appropriate size. You can find more information in our general FAQs.

For a slightly more formal look, we recommend a coat made of wool or fine cotton. A trench coat or a thicker winter jacket also go well with suit trousers and a jacket. Make sure that you have enough freedom of movement in your coat or jacket and choose a length that at least covers the suit jacket.

To find the perfect fit, measure your chest, waist, hips and arm length. Then use our size chart > to determine the appropriate size. This will ensure that your jacket fits perfectly.

The right care depends on the material:

  • Down jackets: Wash on a gentle cycle with down detergent, dry in the dryer with tennis balls.
  • Leather jackets: treat with a special leather balm, do not clean in the washing machine.
  • Functional jackets: do not use fabric softener, reproof regularly.
  • Denim jackets: wash infrequently, turn inside out and allow to air dry.

If you are looking for a particularly warm jacket, we recommend:

  • Down jackets with high loft for maximum thermal insulation.
  • Quilted jackets with synthetic filling that keep you warm even when wet
  • Parkas with fleece or teddy fur lining for extra protection against the cold.
  • Wool coats with additional lining for elegant warmth.

Choose a water-repellent or waterproof functional jacket with sealed seams and a hood. A trench coat with a water-repellent coating is also a stylish option for rainy days.

Light jackets such as blousons, denim jackets or unlined parkas are ideal between-seasons jackets. Softshell jackets offer breathability and protection against light wind or rain.

Sporty outfits go best with softshell jackets, functional jackets or light quilted jackets. These provide great freedom of movement and functional features that are also ideal for outdoor activities

  • Quilted jackets with synthetic fibre filling dry quickly and are easy to wash.
  • Functional jackets are dirt-repellent and rarely need to be washed.
  • Denim jackets are durable and easy to care for.

Regular impregnation protects jackets from moisture and dirt. Functional jackets, down jackets and trench coats in particular benefit from a water-repellent protective layer.
