HIRMER big & tall Style tip

Opt for masculine elegance with a leather jacket!

Combine a black biker jacket with dark jeans and a plain T-shirt for a rock-chic, modern look.

For a more elegant look, choose a brown lamb leather jacket over a fine-knit jumper and pair it with chinos. High-quality leather trainers or Chelsea boots will round off the look perfectly.

Materials & properties

Materials & properties

Leather jackets are available in different types of leather, which differ in look, feel and comfort:

  • Cow leather: particularly robust and durable, ideal for striking biker and pilot jackets.
  • Lamb leather: softer and lighter than cow leather, perfect for elegant, supple models.
  • Suede: has a velvety surface and a particularly elegant look – but requires more care.
  • Nappa leather: smooth, fine leather with a luxurious feel, used for high-quality fashion.

Care instructions for your leather jacket

To ensure that your leather jacket retains its beauty for years to come, follow these tips:

  • Regularly waterproof: this protects against moisture and stains. This is particularly important for suede or nubuck leather.
  • Do not clean in the washing machine: leather requires special care products – for a thorough clean, a professional leather cleaner is recommended.
  • Airing instead of washing: airing the jacket is often enough to neutralise odours.
  • Avoid creasing: hang on a wide hanger so that the leather does not warp.
  • Avoid direct sunlight: UV radiation can fade the colour and dry out the leather.

FAQs for choosing the right jacket

When choosing the type of jacket, you have many options. More important than the model is a well-made cut that is specifically designed for plus sizes. Blousons and parkas often offer extra room to move. But leather and denim jackets are also the perfect fashion statement when cut right. Be brave and try out what you like. You'll be surprised!

No problem! If you try it on and realise that you need a smaller or larger size, you can exchange it for the appropriate size. You can find more information in our general FAQs.

For a slightly more formal look, we recommend a coat made of wool or fine cotton. A trench coat or a thicker winter jacket also go well with suit trousers and a jacket. Make sure that you have enough freedom of movement in your coat or jacket and choose a length that at least covers the suit jacket.

To find the perfect fit, measure your chest, waist, hips and arm length. Then use our size chart > to determine the appropriate size. This will ensure that your jacket fits perfectly.

The right care depends on the material:

  • Down jackets: Wash on a gentle cycle with down detergent, dry in the dryer with tennis balls.
  • Leather jackets: treat with a special leather balm, do not clean in the washing machine.
  • Functional jackets: do not use fabric softener, reproof regularly.
  • Denim jackets: wash infrequently, turn inside out and allow to air dry.

If you are looking for a particularly warm jacket, we recommend:

  • Down jackets with high loft for maximum thermal insulation.
  • Quilted jackets with synthetic filling that keep you warm even when wet
  • Parkas with fleece or teddy fur lining for extra protection against the cold.
  • Wool coats with additional lining for elegant warmth.

Choose a water-repellent or waterproof functional jacket with sealed seams and a hood. A trench coat with a water-repellent coating is also a stylish option for rainy days.

Light jackets such as blousons, denim jackets or unlined parkas are ideal between-seasons jackets. Softshell jackets offer breathability and protection against light wind or rain.

Sporty outfits go best with softshell jackets, functional jackets or light quilted jackets. These provide great freedom of movement and functional features that are also ideal for outdoor activities

  • Quilted jackets with synthetic fibre filling dry quickly and are easy to wash.
  • Functional jackets are dirt-repellent and rarely need to be washed.
  • Denim jackets are durable and easy to care for.

Regular impregnation protects jackets from moisture and dirt. Functional jackets, down jackets and trench coats in particular benefit from a water-repellent protective layer.
